Florida Battles No. 4 Tennessee to Scoreless Road Draw
Thursday, October 16, 2025 | Soccer
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The University of Florida soccer team earned a hard-fought 0-0 draw against No. 4 Tennessee Thursday night in front of 2,884 fans at Regal Soccer Stadium.
Thursday's match marked Florida's second consecutive contest against a top-12 opponent. The Gators previously secured a 2-1 win over then-No. 12 Mississippi State last Friday.
Florida last recorded a road tie against a top-five opponent in the 2014 NCAA quarterfinals — a 2-2 result at No. 3 Stanford.
The result snaps Tennessee's perfect home winning record, as the Lady Vols entered the match 6-0 in Knoxville in 2025, including a season-opening victory over defending NCAA champion North Carolina.
Head Coach Samantha Bohon praised her team's resilience and unity in the face of adversity.
"We knew this would be a tall task — going on the road against a talented Tennessee team," Bohon said. "Once again, this group showed incredible fight and togetherness for the full 90 minutes. With several players unavailable, others stepped up in a big way. It speaks volumes about the heart and depth of this team.
"They're playing with grit and joy — and that's a pretty special combination."
Paloma Peña Career High Saves Thursday
Florida's defensive effort Thursday was led by sophomore Paloma Peña's career-high 11 saves. Peña started the match with a career-high six saves set in the scoreless tie versus then No. 15 South Carolina. She nearly doubled that total tonight, as her 11 saves shares No. 3 all-time for the Gators with Jordan Kellgren who turned in 11 saves in the 2000 match versus BYU.
"Paloma had a special performance and the players in front of her did a great job of clearing out dangerous opportunities on their end," Bohon said.
It was the second solo shutout of Peña's career, with both coming versus top-15 teams – then No. 15 South Carolina (0-0) and at No. 4 Tennessee (0-0).
