BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Jana Hossam's (#11) quarterfinals match against Jenna DeFalco at W35 Bakersfield began late Friday as unusually inclement weather over the previous two days wreaked havoc with the schedule. DeFalco has been ranked as high as 460th in the world as a pro, but Hossam pushed her to the limit before falling 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 to the 23-year-old.
To reach the quarterfinals, Hossam first needed to complete her second round match, Friday, which was suspended the day before. She trailed Oklahoma's Edda Mamedova (#22) 5-1 in the first as the match resumed, and after Mamedova closed out the first 6-1, Hossam bounced back and took the next two 6-2, 6-3.
