
Nicholson wins first match in qualifying round of ITA Regional Championships

MIAMI, Fla. — Florida's Scarlett Nicholson picked up her first singles victory as a member of the Gators Thursday afternoon, upending Florida International's Milica Milosavljevic 7-5, 6-0, in the main stage of the qualifying draw at the ITA Regional Championships.
After transferring to Florida last winter, Nicholson had to sit out the spring season due to NCAA transfer rules. Her last singles win came on Oct. 17, 2025.
Next up for the senior is a Friday, Oct. 9 meeting with Georgia Tech's Taly Licht in the main draw of the tournament beginning at 1:30 p.m. ET.
Six other Gators begin their tournament runs in the main draw on Oct. 9. Jana Hossam (#11) will square off against Florida International's Viktorie Hazmukova at 9:30 a.m. Nikola Daubnerova takes on Florida Gulf Coast's Maria Vargas at 10 a.m. Brooke Black (#82) plays Florida State's MaryBoyce Deatherage at 11 a.m. Gabia Paskausas (#30) faces Georgia Tech's Olivia Carneiro at 12:30 p.m. Capucine Jauffret's match against Kennesaw State's Ema Baraniakova begins at 1:30 p.m. Valery Gynina (#17) is the last Gator to the starting gate, playing Florida Atlantic's Panna Bartha at 2 p.m.
Doubles play also gets underway Friday, and all three Gators tandems have byes into the round of 32: Black and Gynina (#6) will take on the winner of tomorrow afternoon's match between Georgia Tech's Rishitha Reddy Basireddy and Olivia Carmeiro vs. North Florida's Aryana Bartlett and Sydney Stark; Jauffret and Hossam will play the winner of Friday's match between Kennesaw State's Jenelle Roberts and Lucie Nouzova and Georgia Southern's Evelyn Warkentin and Angelina Mihajlovic; and Nicholson and Paskauskas's opponent will be the winner of tomorrow's match between Georgia State's Ayra Salim and Sara Montaño Parada and South Florida's Zoe Lazar and Kelly Loana Vargas Gonzalez.
At the start of the championships, there were 64 singles players in both the main draw and the qualifying draw, and 64 doubles teams in the main draw. There are 13 regional championships taking place over the next two weeks, and on the line are 26 NCAA singles qualifiers and 13 NCAA doubles qualifiers.
