GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The No. 10 Florida men's golf team sits 22-under and owns a three-shot lead heading into tomorrow's final day of the 49th Gators Invitational. Round two was suspended due to darkness at Mark Bostick Golf Course as teams will finish round two in the morning starting at 7:30 a.m. followed by a shotgun start for round three.
After trailing by two shots after round one then as many as seven shots midway through round two, Florida used a 10-under back-nine (still in progress with five holes to score and are 13-under currently) to leap No. 2 Auburn (-19) for the team lead. Behind the Tigers, sits No. 12 Oklahoma State in third-place at 5-under.
Florida aims to win its home event for the seventh straight time and 32nd time overall in the tournament's 49th year of operation. The win streak of seven consecutive would rank third all-time as Florida won the event eight times from 2004-11 and nine between 1989-1997.
Both Matthew Kress and Jack Turner are the top performers in the lineup as they are 6-under and tied for third. They are two shots back of leaders Jake Albert and Jackson Koivun of Auburn. Turner is 5-under and Kress 3-under with each two holes to score in round two.
Making his Gator debut in the lineup, Noah Kent is tied for sixth at 4-under after an opening round of 68 (-2). He is tied for tournament-leading 11 birdies. One shot behind him is sophomore Parker Sanders in T8 as he logged a round one of 67 (-3).
The final UF golfer in the lineup is Zack Swanwick in T13 at 1-under as he is 2-under with one hole to score in his second set of 18-holes. Two shots ahead of him and representing one of four Gators to play as individuals this week is freshman Trevor Gutschewski in T11 and 3-under.
Rounding out the Gators competing this weekend are Parker Severs and Josh Bai in T24 and Parker Bell T31.
