GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The SEC announced today that Florida's Lucie Pawlak is the women's tennis co-freshman of the week for matches played from March 10-16. It is the second SEC Freshman of the Week Award for the Montpellier, France native, who also won the award on March 4, 2026.
Pawlak won both of her singles matches at number five last week, with her come-from-behind, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (9-9) victory over Francesca Mattioli Saturday proving to be the decisive result in a 4-2 win for the Gators over No. 11 Tennessee. Earlier in the week, she posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Kentucky's Asuncion Jadue. Pawlak has now won five of her last six singles matches, and her 15 overall singles wins on the season are tied for the team lead.
In doubles, Pawlak teamed up with India Houghton at number three for a pair of wins, besting Kentucky's Marina Fuduric and Ellie Myers 6-2, and outlasting Tennessee's Katrina Scott and Maeve Thornton 7-5. Pawlak and Houghton have three doubles wins in SEC play which is tops on the team. Pawlak is also a team-best 6-2 in doubles dual meets this season.
The Florida women's tennis team (10-3, 5-2) heads back on the road this week for a pair of matches against nationally-ranked competition beginning with a Thursday, March 19 trip to No. 1 Georgia (10-3, 5-2) at 5 p.m. EDT, and concluding with a Saturday, March 21 visit to No. 24 South Carolina (9-6, 2-5) at 1 p.m. The last time the Gators beat the number one team in the nation was on May 17, 2014 against those same Georgia Bulldogs. They are 0-4 against top-ranked teams since then, but 10-11 all-time against the absolute best of the best.
