No. 5 Gators Hold Off Jacksonville 12-11 to Grab Their Ninth Straight Win

Goalkeeper Maya Soskin Made a clutch save with nine seconds win to seal the win
GAINESVILLE, Fla – In their final non-conference game of the regular season, the No. 5/5 Gators Lacrosse (12-2) were able to hold off a comeback from Jacksonville (9-5) on Wednesday afternoon, to extend their win streak to nine games.
The Gators were led by Frannie Hahn's five points (1 G/ 4 A) as Clark Hamilton and Autumn Blair each scored a hat trick, which is the first of Blair's career. Maya Soskin made eight saves in 47:39 minutes in action.
The Dolphins were led by Maeve Brennan's three goals and one assist and Shae Hagans scored two goals and added an assist.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter (Dolphins 4, Gators 2)
- Caroline Hoskins would get the scoring started in the day, with her unassisted goal coming at 9:31 to give the Gators a 1-0 lead.
- The Dolphins would respond with a 4-0 run, getting goals from Olivia Johnson (7:57), Maddi Santini (6:30), Maeve Brennan (4:29), and Julia Nicholson (2:39), and take a 4-1 lead.
- Senior Kaitlyn Davies would respond at :33 and cut Jacksonville's lead down to 4-2 going into the second frame.
Second Quarter (Gators 9, Dolphins 5)
- The Gators would dominate the second quarter, scoring seven unanswered goals to grab a 9-4 lead. The Gators got goals from Autumn Blair (14:01, 7:18), Clark Hamilton (5:11, 0:34), Frannie Hahn (12:43), Kaitlyn Davies (11:57), and Gabbi Koury (1:53).
- Jacksonville would get one back, with Paige Garguilo scoring with 16 seconds left to make it a 9-5 Florida lead
Third Quarter (Gators 12, Dolphins 8)
- The Gators would get the first three goals of the second half, getting them from Clark Hamilton (12:17), Gabbi Koury (10:28), and Autumn Blair (8:37) to make it 12-5.
- Jacksonville would start their come back as Shae Hagan scored twice (7:59, 3:35) and Maeve Brennan scored (4:25) to cut the lead to 12-8 going into the final 15 minutes.
Fourth Quarter (Gators 12, Dolphins 11)
- After going half of the quarter without a goal, Jacksonville would get the first goal of the fourth from Maeve Brennan at 6:43.
- Jessica Giller (6:05) and Allyx Berry (3:31) would make it a one goal Gator lead late into the fourth quarter.
- After a shot into the side of the net from Jacksonville, UF has a chance to ice to game, but were unable to get a shot off as Jacksonville would get the ball back with less than a minute. After clearing the ball, Maeve Brennan looked to send the game into overtime, but Maya Soskin came up with the save, and handed the Gators the win.
Key Notes
- This is Head Coach Amanda O'Learys 434th win of her career, which moves her in sole possession of third place on the All-Time NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Wins leaderboard, behind Navy Head Coach Cindy Timchal (606 wins), and UNC Head Coach Jenny Levy (455 wins).
- Autumn Blair's hat trick is the first of her career and sets a new career high in goals in a game and points in a game with three.
- Gabbi Koury also set a new career in points with a season with her first goal of the day, surpassing her old total of 31 as she now sits at 33 points.
- Senior Kaitlyn Davies inched closer to 100 career points, as she now sits at 97 in her career.
- This is the first time since Navy that the Gators have given up more than five goals in the second half, and the first time they've been held scoreless in a quarter since their Final Four matchup against UNC last season.
