NO. 20 FLORIDA SOCCER TEAM UPSETS NO. 6 VIRGINIA

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The No. 20 ranked University of Florida (2-0) women's soccer team upset No. 6 Virginia (2-1) by the score of 1-0 in front of 2,710 fans, the second largest home crowd in Florida history.

The only score in the match came in the first half at 35:47 when sophomore
Melissa Pini approached the goal box on a solo breakaway and passed to an open
Sarah Yohe who took the shot at dead center from 10 yards out.
Both teams had equal shooting opportunities as each posted eight shots on goal. The Gator defense came up big as they stepped up to contribute to the first shutout of the season. Leading the defense were Gator goalkeepers
Lynn Pattishall and
Michelle Harris, who combined for five goalie saves.
The Gators' next match will be against the defending SEC Champion Kentucky Wildcats on Friday, Sept. 13 at Percy Beard Stadium. The Wildcats are currently ranked at No. 16
by
Soccer America. Match time is scheduled for 4 p.m. and admission is free.
