UF'S O'NEAL REACHES QUARTERFINALS AT REGION III CHAMPIONSHIPS

ATHENS, Ga. -- University of Florida senior Justin O'Neal advanced to the quarterfinals in singles Friday at the ITA Region III Indoor Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia.
O'Neal, the second seed who is rated 10th in the ITA preseason rankings, eliminated Kentucky's 82nd-ranked Edo Bowano 6-0, 6-4 in the third round before rallying to down Georgia's Lesley Joseph 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 and advance.
Senior Dylan Mann upset Kentucky's 54th-ranked Johan Hesoun 6-2, 7-6 (6) in the third round before falling to 15th-ranked Mark Parsons of Tennessee 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles, junior Marcos Asse and Mann won a second round match before dropping a third round match to Tom Hand and Daniel Kiernan of LSU. Freshman Matt Behrmann and O'Neal, who are ranked 38th in doubles and were seeded fourth, won a second round match before being eliminated in third round play.
The singles winner, singles finalist and winning doubles team from this regional event receives an automatic berth to the 2000 Rolex National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, which will be hosted by Southern Methodist University and Brookhaven Country Club in Dallas, Texas from Feb. 3-6. The tournament runs through Sunday, November 7.
