Florida’s Danielle Fotopoulos on U.S. Roster for 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida soccer player Danielle Fotopoulos has earned a spot on the U.S. roster for the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup. U.S. Head Coach Tony DiCicco announced the 20 player roster today at a press conference at NIKETOWN Chicago. DiCicco was not required to name his roster until June 9, when all 16 Women's World Cup Teams must submit their official squads to FIFA, but he will now have a month to prepare his complete Women's World Cup team. The USA opens play on June 19 against Denmark at Giants Stadium (Kickoff is 3 p.m. ET -- LIVE on ABC).
As a senior in 1998, Fotopoulos reset two major NCAA Career records. She owns both the NCAA Career Goal (118 total goals) and Scoring Points (284) Records. The 1998 Southeastern Conference Player of the Year, she led the nation with a total of 32 goals in 1998. Fotopoulos, who received her bachelor's degree in recreation from UF in May, also was awarded 1998 national player of the year awards by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, Soccer America, ESPN.com/Soccer Times and Soccer Buzz. She also was named the NCAA Final Four Offensive MVP after posting a goal and an assist in UF's two Final Four matches – including hitting the game-winning goal in the national championship match vs. North Carolina. Fotopoulos earned a spot on every All-America first-team as a senior – NSCAA, Soccer America, ESPN.com/Soccer Times, Soccer Buzz, and College Soccer Weekly.
