FLORIDA ADVANCES TO ROUND OF 16 AT NCAA MEN'S TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The third-ranked and fourth-seeded University of Florida men's tennis team (26-3) advanced to the round of 16 of the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships with a 4-0 victory over UAB (19-7) Sunday afternoon at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex.
The Gators reach the round of 16 for the eighth time in the last 10 seasons and set the school record for wins in a season, breaking the mark of 25 by the 1975 team. Florida will face the winner of the Fresno State-Southern Cal match in the round of 16 Saturday, May 20 in Athens, Georgia.
Florida opened the match with wins at number one and number two doubles to grab a 1-0 advantage. UF's third-ranked team of juniors Jeff Morrison and Nathan Overholser captured their 19th consecutive victory with an 8-4 win at number one over Tom Dalby and Alex Jung. Sophomore Olivier Levant and senior Justin O'Neal closed out the point with an 8-3 win over UAB's Andre Van Der Merwe and Martin Woisetschlager at number two.
O'Neal, who is ranked 10th in singles, gave the Gators a 2-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Dalby at number two in his final match at home. O'Neal finishes with a 52-9 singles record at Linder Stadium, including 15-1 this season. The win was also O'Neal's eighth straight in singles. Morrison, the nation's top-ranked player, followed with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at number one over 14th-ranked Woisetschlager for his 12th consecutive victory. Freshman Troy Hahn, in his first career NCAA match, sent the Gators to Athens for the second straight year with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Paul Shovlin at number six singles.
