NCAA Singles - Day Four
GATOR MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER FALLS IN NCAA SEMIFINALS
Saturday, May 27, 2000 | Men's Tennis
ATHENS, Ga. - University of Florida junior Jeff Morrison (Huntington, W.V.) lost to Kentucky's 31st-ranked Carlos Drada 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinals of the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships Saturday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Morrison and Drada were meeting for the third time this season, with Drada winning for the second time over Morrison. Morrison, the defending NCAA singles champion and the tournament's top seed, was trying to become the first back-to-back champion since Mikael Pernfors in 1984 and 1985.
"It was a tough day for me," said Morrison. "Carlos played a great match and he deserves to be in the finals. He makes me play a lot of balls and he neutralizes my attack better than most guys."
Drada will meet Stanford's Alex Kim in Sunday's final at 1 p.m. Morrison ends the year with a 40-5 singles mark and will receive All-America honors in both singles and doubles for the second straight year.
