Women's Tennis Holds Off No. 11 Tennessee, 4-3

The fifth-ranked University of Florida women's tennis team rallied for a 4-3 victory over 11th-ranked Tennessee at Goodfriend Tennis Center in Knoxville. The Gators, who improved to 25-0 all-time against the Vols, ran their overall record to 20-2, including an 8-1 mark in the SEC. UT dropped to 17-5 overall, 7-2 in the league.
Florida took the early momentum after posting upset wins on doubles courts No. 1 and 2, as Jennifer Magley and Zerene Reyes defeated sixth-ranked Vilmarie Castellvi and Melissa Schaub 8-5 to secure the crucial team point.
The two teams split the six singles matches, as Florida utilized its depth to capture individual victories at the number 4, 5 and 6 spots and come away with the dual match.
"This was the first match all season when we completely had our backs against the wall," UF assistant coach Dave Balogh said. "We really were down on the majority of the singles courts and it didn't look good. But I have to give our players credit because they did a great job of keeping it together and competing. It was extremely windy and the conditions were tough, but we fought through it to get the win."
The Gators next travel to sixth-ranked Georgia for Sunday's showdown against the Lady Bulldogs, who lead the SEC with a 9-0 conference mark.
