Gator Men?s Tennis Wins 5-2 At No. 62 Alabama

The eighth-ranked University of Florida men's tennis team came away with its eighth straight win as the Gators defeated No. 62 Alabama on Sunday afternoon in Tuscaloosa, 5-2. With the win, the Gators are on their best winning streak since fourth-year head coach Andy Jackson took over the squad. In addition, UF is 13-4 overall and off to a 6-0 start in SEC play for the second time in four seasons with Jackson at the helm.
Florida won the doubles point in just over an hour. UF's Jordan Dolberg and Ryan Sherry teamed for their second straight victory as they moved to 11-5 in dual matches on the year with an 8-6 decision over Bily Mertz and Jordie Kindervater. Alabama's Jospeh Jung and RJ Murray got an 8-6 win of their own on court two over UF's Chris Brandi and Vladimir Obradovic leaving the point to be determined at the top of the order. Florida's 12th-ranked Hamid Mirzadeh and Greg Ouellette got past Luigi D'Agord and Eric Molnar, 9-7, to give UF the 1-0 advantage and improve to 6-4 in dual matches.
Florida would go on to improve to 9-1 on the year when getting the doubles point with wins on four
singles courts.
Mirzadeh and Ouellette got UF out to a 3-0 lead with straight set wins on courts one and three, respectively. First, Mirzadeh (ranked 58th) got his third win over a ranked opponent this season by taking out D'Agord in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Ouellette (No. 32) also won in straight sets by posting a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Javier Bes for his eighth straight victory improving to 11-3 on the year.
Brandi (No. 71) clinched the match for the Gators with a straight set 6-1, 6-3 win on court five over Mertz. Brandi's record climbed to a team leading 12-2 on the season. He also joined Ouellette as the two are now 6-0 against SEC foes in dual singles matches.
Dolberg made it 5-0 in Florida's favor with a 6-4, 6-2 win at the bottom of the order over Murray. Dolberg win increased his record to 4-2 on the year and was his second in as many outings.
Jung got Alabama on the board by breaking Obradovic's five-match win streak on court two. Obradovic, who had not dropped a match since March 6 (vs. Arkansas), fell in straight sets 6-2, 7-6.
After dropping the first set to UF's Nestor Briceno, Alabama's Molnar came back to finish out the scoring by taking a 3-6, 7-6, 6-0 win on court four.
UF remains in conference play as the Gators return home for a critical meeting with seventh-ranked Georgia on Friday, April 1. The match will begin at 4 p.m.
