Florida Men?s Tennis Downs Arkansas, 6-1

For the third time in four years under head coach Andy Jackson, the seventh-ranked University of Florida men's tennis team began the SEC schedule with back-to-back wins as the Gators defeated 38th-ranked Arkansas, 6-1, Sunday afternoon in Gainesville. With the win, UF improved to 7-4 overall, while Arkansas fell to 2-6 and 0-2 in league play.
UF began the match by claiming the doubles point for the first time in the three outings. Vladimir Obradovic and Chris Brandi were tied at four with Imraan Ismail and Matt Roberts on court two before pulling away for an 8-4 win to get the Gators to within one of clinching the point.
On court three, Jordan Dolberg and Ryan Sherry came back from a 4-1 deficit to put UF on top as the picked up their eight win of the season by defeating Talley Parker and Andrei Nicoara. Florida's Hamid Mirzadeh and Greg Ouellete made it a sweep at the top of the order by reeling off wins in three straight games to beat Adrians Zguns and Rohan Gajjar, 9-7.
In singles play, Brandi made it 2-0 in Florida's favor when he picked up a straight set 6-1, 6-2 decision over Matt Simpson on court five. The win brought his dual record to 7-2 on the year.
Mirzadeh picked up his second straight win on the top court. After trailing 5-3 in the first set against Zguns, the UF senior came back to win in straight sets as well 7-6 (2), 6-2.
Sherry provided the clincher for Florida with a 6-2, 7-5 win on court six against Michael Jung to improve to 6-1 at the position this year.
One minute later, Nestor Briceno made it a 5-0 match by not giving up a game in the first or third sets to Ismail on court four (6-0, 4-6, 6-0). The victory was the third straight for the UF newcomer.
Ouellette rounded out the scoring for UF by defeating his Ouellette defeated the sixth ranked foe of his career with a 6-4, 7-5 decision over Roberts (No. 72).
UF will continue its seven-match home stretch, as the Gators will take to the courts on Friday, March 11 at 4 p.m. when Florida hosts 31st-ranked Vanderbilt.
