Watts and Jensen, both homeschooled, are among the top 25 recruits in the country according to the Golfweek Class of 2008. Jensen is rated No. 12 and Watts comes in at No. 21.
“We're losing quite a few seniors and we're very fortunate to have Evan and Andrea join us,” Briles-Hinton said. “Both these freshmen will have an immediate impact on Florida and pick up where our seniors left off.”
Jensen has three top-10 finishes to her credit this year, tying for eighth at the Mayakoba Junior golf Classic, tying for seventh at the Birks and Mayors Junior Championship at Mirasol and third at the Mizuno Junior at Chateau Elan. She has been a member of the Florida Junior Tour since 2004 and won medalist honors in four of the nine events she appeared in during the 2006-07 tournament year. Most recently, she was selected as an honorable mention selection to the Rolex Junior All- American team.
“Evan is a tremendous athlete and has a great mind for golf and will definitely be fighting for a starting position next year,” Briles-Hinton said. “She is a sensational player.”
Watts has been competing on the FCWT (Future Collegians World Tour) since 2004, finishing in the top 10 in five events she participated in for the 2006-07 slate. She captured a title to conclude the 2007 FCWT season by winning the notorious Laura Diaz Girls National Championship.
“Andrea has one of the best golf swings I have ever seen and it's technically sound," Briles-Hinton said. "She's been working on her short game pretty hard. She too, will be able to shoot the numbers that the Gators need to put up in order to give us a chance to win.”
