Florida Volleyball Signs Eastside High's Chloe Mann

Chloe Mann, a 6-foot-1 middle blocker from Gainesville's Eastside High School, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at the University of Florida beginning in the 2009 season, head coach Mary Wise announced Wednesday.
Mann, who first began playing volleyball her freshman year of high school, has helped Eastside win back-to-back District 4-5A titles. A 2007 third-team All-State selection by the Florida Sportswriters Association, Mann helped lead the Rams to their first-ever appearance in the Class 5A regional final last year and, on Tuesday, Eastside locked up its second appearance in the Regional Finals. Mann is looking to help her high school team make its first-ever trip to the FHSAA final four this month.
“Our goal in this class was to sign a middle blocker with elite foot-speed and jumping ability to play well above the top of the net,” Wise said. “Chloe possesses the athleticism similar to some of the great middles we've had at Florida. With her talent and work-ethic, Chloe has a great future. We're very fortunate that, once again, we benefit from the talent-rich area of Gainesville.”
Mann, who has a recorded vertical leap of 10-4, is a student in the International Baccalaureate program at Eastside. She is the sixth volleyball player from the Gainesville area to sign with the Gators since the 2000 season and that group includes current Florida players Elyse Cusack and Kelsey Bowers.
Over the past two seasons with Mann in a starting role, the Rams have compiled a 50-9 record. She also will be entering her second season as a member of the Gainesville Juniors club team in the spring of 2009. As a starting middle blocker last season, Mann and her team advanced to the Junior Olympics.
