Three University of Florida volleyball freshmen were named to the Southeastern Conference Freshman Academic Honor Roll, which was announced Tuesday by league commissioner Michael L. Slive.
The Gators, who were tied with the second-most freshman volleyball academic selections in the SEC, placed Erin Fleming (Orlando, Fla.), Kristy Jaeckel (Littleton, Colo.) and Callie Rivers (Winter Park, Fla.) to the 549-player list. In total 66 Florida student-athletes were named to the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll.
Including the seven Gator volleyball players selected to the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll, 10 of 14 team members earned academic recognition from the league.
Florida and South Carolina each placed a league-high 66 on the SEC Freshman Academic Honor. Grades from the 2007-08 academic year are used to determine the 2008 SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll.
Each student-athlete must 1) have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship or a letter winner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
