The championship potential that she can see on the outside of the puzzle's box is enormous, but the job she and her staff have each day is to work on finding a way to take the 14 individual pieces and put them together in the proper way to spell success. Each of the pieces is so unique and impressive in its own way that the challenge of finding the right combination is exciting to Wise.
“There's just so many pieces,” Wise said after Friday's practice. “I feel like if there was ever a team that I could give an extra week between the two weeks of preseason and the start of the season, it would be this team, only because there are so many possibilities. There are many pieces and it's all about how we put those pieces together. That's the fun part of coaching this team right now.”
Six true freshmen - which comprise the nation's No. 1 recruiting class according to both PrepVolleyball.com and Volleyball Magazine - and one redshirt freshman join seven veterans on the 2008 Florida volleyball team, which begins its season at 7 p.m. Aug. 29 vs. UAB.
The Gators spent much of Thursday and Friday morning working on team defense, while concluding practice on Friday with an emphasis on team side-out offense.
REMINDER - FAN DAY ON SUNDAY, AUG. 24
Florida will host its annual Fan Day and Orange and Blue Match on Sunday, Aug. 24 at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. with autographs scheduled for 1 p.m. and the scrimmage set for 2 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public with a reminder that only the team poster, which will be provided upon entrance, may be autographed.
