Monday, April 6, 2009 | Gymnastics
The No. 5 seeded University of Florida gymnastics team appears in Session I of the NCAA Championships' team qualifying competition on Thursday, April 16 at 2 p.m. (ET). Session I contains three of the five Southeastern Conference teams that advanced to the NCAA Championship - four-time defending NCAA champion Georgia and LSU with Penn State, Stanford and Big 12 champion Oklahoma taking the other three team slots. Session II (which begins at 8 p.m. ET) consists of Alabama, Arkansas, UCLA, Illinois, Oregon State and Utah. The 2009 NCAA Championships are set for April 16-18 in the University of Nebraska's Bob Devaney Sports Center.
The National Qualifying Score (NQS) determined the pairings for day one of the NCAA Championships' team competition. The NQS ranks teams 1-12 by adding a team's regional qualifying score (RQS) and score from the regional meet. Teams 1, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 12 were placed in Thursday's Session I and teams 2, 3, 6, 7, 10 and 11 placed in Session II. Florida advanced to the NCAA Championships as the No. 5 seed after winning the NCAA North Central Regional held Saturday, April 4 in the University of Iowa's Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
The top three teams in each of Thursday's sessions will advance to the NCAA Super Six on Friday, April 17 at 7 p.m. (ET), where the national team champion is determined.
