FORT WORTH, Texas — In a setting where she once made dominance look routine, Bridget Sloan finally found herself at a loss for words.
A star during her Gator career who is now part of ESPN2's broadcast team for the NCAA Gymnastics Championships, Sloan was interviewing Florida head coach Jenny Rowland ahead of podium training at Dickies Arena when the moment shifted. Rowland turned the spotlight back on Sloan, catching her completely off guard.
For someone whose legacy in the Orange & Blue has long felt destined for this kind of honor, this October it becomes official: Bridget Sloan will be inducted as a Gator Great at the University of Florida Athletics Hall of Fame banquet.
"Honestly, I was completely stunned when Jenny told me I'm being inducted into the 2026 Florida Athletics Hall of Fame—there aren't even words for how that felt," Sloan said. "I'm beyond honored by this recognition. Competing for Florida and representing Gator Nation meant everything to me. That time for Gator gymnastics was so special, and being part of those teams will always be something I'm incredibly proud of."
The nine-time NCAA champion (three team, six individual titles) is the first Gator Great announced for the 2026 class. The class will be inducted at the Hall of Fame Banquet on Friday, October 9 prior to the South Carolina home football game.
Florida athletes become eligible for the Hall of Fame 10 years after completing their Gator career, making Sloan a first-ballot inductee. She is the ninth gymnast to be named a Gator Great, joining Kristin Guise (1993-96), Corey Hartung (2006-09), Kytra Hunter (2012-15), Lynn McDonnell (1981-84), Melissa Miller (1986-89), Elfi Schlegel (1983-86), Chrissy Van Fleet (1997-2000) and Ann Woods (1980-82).
Gator Greats are Letterwinners who brought recognition and prominence to the University of Florida and themselves by their athletic accomplishments as a student-athlete.

During an interview during her freshman season in 2013, Bridget Sloan said she hoped she could help give the Gators the oomph needed to win their first NCAA team title. That oomph helped the Gator program win three consecutive NCAA team titles (2013, 2014, 2015) plus Sloan also collected a program high six NCAA individual crowns.
