The University of Florida volleyball team, coming off winning the 31st Annual Community Bankers Classic – long considered the most prestigious regular-season tournament in women's college volleyball, has jumped to No. 4 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association weekly poll, the Lexington, Ky., based organization announced Tuesday.
Florida's No. 4 national ranking is its highest since the 2005 season, as the Gators are off to a 5-0 start, having defeated No. 11 Stanford and Pacific this past weekend in Stockton, Calif. Florida also defeated Florida State last Monday – a team which is ranked No. 22 in this week's AVCA poll.
The Gators are one of two Southeastern Conference teams ranked in the nation's top 25 as Kentucky checks in at No. 17. Additionally, LSU and Tennessee are receiving votes.
Florida returns to action this weekend when it travels to Tampa, Fla., to face USF and No. 3 Washington in the Tampa Twice Tournament.
