Wednesday, December 22, 2010 | Volleyball
The Florida volleyball team, coming off one of its finest seasons in program history with a 29-2 overall record and its 19th Southeastern Conference Championship, finished its 2010 campaign ranked No. 8 in the final American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, marking the 20th consecutive season that the Gators are among the nation's top-15 in the final poll.
It is the 15th top-10 final placing in the last 20 years for the Gators, who have been ranked in the AVCA poll for 306 consecutive polls dating back to Sept. 17, 1991. That marks the nation's fifth-longest streak of consecutive weeks ranked.
The Gators, who finished the 2010 campaign with the top winning percentage in the NCAA at 93.5 percent this season, lead the nation since 1991 with 632 total victories. Florida's 20 consecutive 25-win seasons also comprise a nation-leading streak.
Four-time defending NCAA Champion Penn State (32-5) garnered each of the 60 first-place votes to rank No. 1 in the AVCA's final poll, while national runner-up Cal (30-4) was No. 2. National semifinalists Southern Cal (29-5) and Texas (27-6) finished third and fourth, respectively, while No. 5 Stanford (27-4) rounded out the AVCA's final top-five.
