Florida Volleyball Notebook: Aug. 10, 2010

The Florida volleyball team jump-started its 2010 season by participating in its first two-a-day practices of the fall on Tuesday at the L. Gale Lemerand Center.
Florida head coach Mary Wise was pleased with the team's performance on its first day of the two-week training camp, with much being credited to the fact that each of the squad's 15 players spent time training in Gainesville this summer.
“There were a number of real bright spots today,” Wise said. “The level of play, the work-ethic and our level of conditioning was all very impressive.”
The team spent the majority of the day, which included a morning practice and an afternoon practice, learning new terms and schemes that will be utilized in the upcoming campaign. It proved to be an educational experience for each squad member.
“Today was all about introducing new terminology and systems that we will be using this year,” Wise said. “All the players got to be like freshmen today.”
For five new players, Tuesday marked their first-ever practice in a Gator uniform.
“For the coaching staff, it was our first time seeing our new players in the gym,” Wise said. “It's new to them and it's something that's always fun about the first day of practice.”
The Gators begin their 2010 campaign Aug. 28-29, when they travel to Omaha, Neb., to participate in the prestigious AVCA Showcase, where they will face Big 12 Conference foes Iowa State and Nebraska.
