Women's Tennis Concludes Action at SEC Coaches Fall Classic

University of Florida sophomores Caroline Hitimana (Waterloo, Belgium) and Brittany Borsanyi (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) won their respective singles draws at the Southeastern Conference Coaches Fall Classic held at Auburn's Yarbrough Tennis Center, where play wrapped up Sunday.
This was the inaugural tournament for the Gators, who won't take the court again until October for the Riviera ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
“Caroline had a good win today. She played very good defense and that's why she was able to win,” UF head coach Roland Thornqvist said. “She didn't play her best tennis, but the fact that she could get the win was good. Overall, I thought we fought really hard. We came away with a lot of good information about things to work on for the fall season so this tournament served its purpose.”
Hitiaman downed Georgia's Alina Jerjomina, 6-1, 7-6 (4), in the Flight 3A final, while Borsanyi defeated Mississippi State's Hall,, 6-1, 6-1, in the Flight 5B title match.
Junior Claire Bartlett (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and freshman Olivia Janowicz (Palm Bay, Fla.) came up short in their respective bids to win their singles draws, as Bartlett fell to Tennessee's Brynn Boren, 6-3, 6-3, in the 2A final and Janowicz dropped a tough 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-1 decision to Vanderbilt's Alex Leatu in 5B action.
Bartlett and Janowicz, also dropped a hard-fought, 9-8 (9-7) thriller to Vanderbilt's Erica Robertson and Chelsea Preeg in the Flight 2 doubles final.
Junior Joanna Mather (Duluth, Ga.) posted a 2-1 record in Flight 1A action, concluding Sunday's play with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Tennessee's Rosalia Alda, while freshman Alex Cercone (Seminole, Fla.) lost her Flight 1B third-place bout versus Alabama's 89th-ranked Courtney McLane, 6-3, 6-0.
