Najee Glass and the Gators are looking to validate their preseason rankings this weekend.
No. 1/6 Gators Ready to Open Indoor Season at Rod McCravy Memorial
Thursday, January 21, 2016 | Track and Field
Florida's national title pursuit begins this weekend in Lexington, Ky.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Florida track and field program's march toward the NCAA Indoor Championships begins on Friday (Jan. 22) and Saturday (Jan. 23), when it opens the 2016 campaign at the Rod McCravy Memorial, hosted by the University of Kentucky.
The Gators, ranked No. 1 on the men's side and No. 6 on the women's side in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Preseason National Team Rankings, return to this meet for a third consecutive year.
Last season, UF broke meet records in both the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay. Former Gator Sean Obinwa's 2014 meet record in the men's 800 meters (1:48.20) still stands, but might get a scare this weekend from the dynamic duo of Andres Arroyo and Ryan Schnulle.
Najee Glass returns to Nutter Field House holding the facility record in the men's 400 meters (45.37), which won him the league title at last season's SEC Indoor Championships.
Of the 12 programs bound for Lexington, four men's teams are nationally ranked, while six women's clubs find themselves in the initial top 25.
Three of the most competitive events will be the men's and women's 60 meters, as well as the men's 60-meter hurdles. All three feature a host of athletes already boasting top-16 national times and returning athletes who were lauded in the preseason event rankings.
SEC Network Plus on Watch ESPN will provide live coverage of Saturday's competition, starting at 12 p.m. ET and ending once the meet concludes.
