The meet will also feature some underlying Olympic storylines
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Florida will take its first trip out of the Sunshine State this season, traveling up north for a tri-meet with Texas, whose men's team is the 2016 defending national champions, and Indiana on Friday and Saturday.
The three teams will face off beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET Friday in diving and will continue with swimming at 2 p.m. in a 50-meter long-course meet. The meet concludes Saturday at 10 a.m. ET in a 25-yard short-course meet. Both days will consist of 16 swimming events and two diving events.
In the regular season, the Gators (1-0 M, 1-0 W) most recently saw the Longhorns and Hoosiers just last year, meeting up with both teams last October in Austin, Texas. The meet was divided up into two days, with the first day in a long-course format and the second day in short-course meters. The Florida men fell to Texas both days 179-121 and 162-100 but won over Indiana 157-143 and 140-122. The women were swept by Texas 171-129 and 155-105 and by Indiana 159-139 and 142-120.
Both Texas and Indiana have not yet competed this season.
For those who followed Olympic swimming & diving in August, many of the names on each team's roster will sound familiar. On the Longhorns' roster, Townley Haas, Jack Conger and Clark Smith helped the United States win gold in the men's 4x200 free relay, and Joseph Schooling pulled the upset win over Michael Phelps in the 100 butterfly to bring Singapore its first Olympic swimming medal. Joanna Evans competed on the women's side for the Bahamas. For Indiana, current Hoosiers James Connor (Australia), Michael Hixon (USA) and Jessica Parratto (USA) competed in the diving well, with Hixon winning silver in the men's synchronized 3-meter springboard. Kennedy Goss (Canada), Ali Khalafalla (Egypt), Lilly King (USA), Blake Pieroni (USA) and Anze Tavcar (Slovenia) represented in swimming -- Goss won a bronze medal as a member of the women's 4x200 free relay team, King a gold in the 100 breast and in the 4x100 medley relay and Pieroni a gold in the 4x100 free relay.
Gators Mitch D'Arrigo, Caeleb Dressel and Jan Switkowski swam for Italy, the United States and Poland respectively in Rio. Dressel earned two of Florida's six swimming medals in the 4x100 free relay and 4x100 medley relay.
