Florida Resumes Invitational Competition at Georgia Tech
Wednesday, November 16, 2016 | Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving
The meet will run in a similar format to the SEC and NCAA championships
ATLANTA – Florida will take a break from dual meets for the remainder of the year and start a stretch of two road invitationals on the road, the first being the Georgia Tech Invitational from Thursday, Nov. 17 to Saturday, Nov. 19 in Atlanta.
The Gators have not competed in an invitational since their season-opening All-Florida Invitational appearance back in September, but this competition features a few familiar faces and is in an environment the Gators have been in before. Host Georgia Tech's home pool, the McAuley Aquatic Center, was the site of the 2016 NCAA Championships and also housed swimming, diving, synchronized swimming and the swimming portion of the modern pentathlon during the 1996 Olympic Games.
Out of the 11 other programs participating, the Gators have seen two already this season. The Gator women defeated Arkansas 188-112 in Fayetteville earlier this month, and Florida Gulf Coast competed alongside UF in the All-Florida Invitational.
"Right now, it will be exactly ten weeks since we swam our first invitational," said Florida head coach Gregg Troy about this weekend's invite. "This point will give us a chance to evaluate what we've done in each of the three-week training cycles, and from there, we'll see what kind of improvements we've actually made over the ten weeks with almost the same amount of time from now until the conference meet.
"This is kind of a key weekend for us to evaluate where we are and where we want to go with the rest of the season and how well we've done in our transition through the last three training cycles."
The meet will be structured with prelims going off at 10 a.m. each day and finals beginning at 5:30 p.m. A schedule of events can be found here.
Live results will be available for the meet on ramblinwreck.com, and results will also be updated throughout the day on Twitter at @GatorsSwimDv and posted in full at the conclusion of each day of competition on FloridaGators.com. Each day will also be streamed live on WatchESPN.
