Florida Women’s Golf Seeks To Defend Title at Briar’s Creek Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 8 Gator women's golf team will travel to Johns Island, S.C., on March 21-22, for the Briar's Creek Invitational, hosted by the College of Charleston. UF will look to defend its 2015 team title at the par-72, 6,036-yard Golf Club at Briar's Creek, which features an 18-team field, including five of Golfweek's top-30 teams.
Last time on the links, head coach Emily Glaser's squad won its lone home tournament of the season, the SunTrust Gator Invitational. The Gators finished with a winning margin of 11-strokes at +22 (862), giving them their fourth team title in their past five tournaments.
At the 2015 Briar's Creek Invitational, the Gators took home the team trophy with a 54-hole score of +2 (866). Then-sophomore Kelly Grassel finished as the runner-up, narrowly missing out on her first individual collegiate win by finishing three strokes behind Miami's Daniela Darquea.
Course Information: The tournament is being held at the par-72, 6,036-yard Golf Club at Briar's Creek in Johns Island, S.C.
Format: 54-hole stroke play where teams will play three rounds, 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday.

The Gators' Lineup:
Junior Maria Torres (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico): She was named the SEC Golfer of the Week following her fifth-place finish (215) at the Gator Invitational.
Junior Karolina Vlckova (Unhošt, Czech Republic): At the Gator Invitational, she recorded rounds of 79-69-68 to finish tied for seventh, her fifth top-10 finish of the season.
Sophomore Taylor Tomlinson (Gainesville, Fla.): The sophomore posted her seventh top-25 finish this season at the Gator Invitational, where she tied for 12th.
Junior Kelly Grassel (Chesterton, Ind.): At the 2015 Briar's Creek Invitational, she narrowly missed out on the individual title, finishing second overall with a collegiate-best (-4) 212 total.
Freshman Sam Wagner (Windermere, Fla.): The freshman has competed in the Gators' lineup at every event this season, finishing in the top-25 four times and boasts a scoring average of 73.86.
Head Coach Emily Glaser Says: "We are looking forward to defending our title at the Briar's Creek Invitational. Last year, we played in very, very wet conditions so we will most likely see a different golf course this year and have been preparing as such. We are hoping to see some fine-tuning of the things we have been working on since the Gator Invitational, and I know the team is excited to compete again."
