Connor Bandel is one of the top discus throwers heading into the World Junior Championships
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida track and field program will see four Gators compete at the North America Central America Caribbean Under-23 Championships and another three Gators compete at the IAAF World Junior Championships this coming weekend and much of next week.
Rising junior jumpers KeAndre Bates and Darrielle McQueen headline the group headed to El Salvador for the NACAC U23 Championships. Sprinters Shayla Sanders (100 meters) and Robin Reynolds (200 meters) could also run for the United States' 4x100 relay team in addition to their individual events.
Incoming freshman Connor Bandel leads the trio headed to Poland for World Juniors. Bandel captured the United States junior discus throw title with a winning margin of 13 feet, 3 inches last month.
Rising sophomore Yanis David (long jump, triple jump), who will represent France, and incoming frosh Brandee' Johnson (400 hurdles, 4x400 relay) will both pull double duty during their stints at World Juniors.
Also in international competition, the 13 UF track and field Olympians will begin competition in Rio de Janeiro on Friday, August 12.
