RIO DE JANEIRO – A track and field program-record 12 Gators are set to compete at the Olympics over the next nine days, beginning with rising senior Andres Arroyo's (Puerto Rico) run in the 800 meters preliminary Friday (Aug. 12) morning.
Eight of the Gators in Rio are returning Olympians, including reigning triple jump gold medalist Christian Taylor (United States), reigning triple jump silver medalist and long jump bronze medalist Will Claye (United States), reigning 4x400 relay silver medalist Tony McQuay (United States), 2008 400-meter hurdles silver medalist Kerron Clement (United States), and three-time bronze medalist Novlene Williams-Mills (Jamaica).
Genevieve LaCaze (Australia), who will run both the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000 meters, as well as shot put thrower Kemal Mesic (Bosnia) and long jumper Shara Proctor (Great Britain) will each take part in their second Olympiad.
This year's NCAA outdoor 400 meters champion Arman Hall (United States), 110-meter hurdler Eddie Lovett (U.S. Virgin Islands), and shot put thrower Stipe Zunic (Croatia), like Arroyo, will make their Olympic debuts.
