Genevieve LaCaze is the first Aussie in history to advance to the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase Olympic final
RIO DE JANEIRO – Gator Great Genevieve LaCaze (Australia) advanced to the 3,000-meter steeplechase final, highlighting Florida's second day of Olympic track and field competition.
LaCaze posted a runner-up finish in her heat, securing an automatic berth for Monday's (Aug. 15) final, which is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. ET on NBC.
A two-time All-American and UF's school record holder in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, LaCaze is the first Australian in history to qualify for an Olympic final in the event, though it was not introduced to the Summer Games until 2008.
Rising senior Andres Arroyo (Puerto Rico), who became the first man in his country's history to advance past the preliminary heats of the 800 meters Friday (Aug. 12) morning, bowed out in the semifinals. Arroyo, the second-youngest runner remaining in the 24-man field, finished seventh in his heat, clocking in at 1:46.74.
Gators return to action on Monday. Defending Olympic gold medalist Christian Taylor (United States) and defending Olympic silver medalist Will Claye (United States) get the field events rolling with triple jump qualifying, followed by LaCaze's final, and 2008 Olympic silver medalist Kerron Clement's (United States) 400-meter hurdles preliminary race. Gator Great Eddie Lovett (U.S. Virgin Islands) will run a 110-meter hurdles preliminary heat in primetime.

In addition to television broadcasts on NBC and NBC Sports Network, all track and field events will be streamed online. Links to each day's streaming links can be found in the broadcast schedule below.
