Hall, McQuay, and Williams-Mills will find out tomorrow evening whether or not they'll run in their respective 4x400 relay finals
RIO DE JANEIRO – Four Gator Greats competed in Olympic track and field action Friday (Aug. 19) night, with three helping their nation's 4x400 relay squads qualify for Saturday (Aug. 20) night's finals.
Genevieve LaCaze (Australia), the only Gator in a final on Friday, decimated her personal record by 10 seconds to take 12th place in the 5,000 meters. It marked the third time at these Olympics LaCaze clocked a personal best.
Reigning NCAA Outdoor 400 meters national champion Arman Hall and 2012 Olympic silver medalist Tony McQuay ran the first two legs for Team USA's 4x400 relay. Hall and McQuay both made their exchanges with the Americans leading the race, helping them secure an automatic berth in tomorrow's final.
Three-time Olympic bronze medalist Novlene Williams-Mills anchored Jamaica's 4x400 relay to victory on the women's side. Williams-Mills and the Jamaicans clocked the second-fastest qualifying time.
