This is the middle match of three consecutive top-15 opponents for Florida - at Stanford (1-0 OT loss, Aug. 26), at No. 15 UCLA (Aug. 28) and at No. 1 Florida State (Sept. 2).
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The nation's only two teams to face top-15 opponents in back-to-back matches this weekend - No. 6 Florida and No. 15 UCLA – meet Sunday. Match time is set for 6 p.m. ET at UCLA's Drake Stadium.
Both teams were on the road Friday to face its top-15 opponent. The Gators lost 1-0 in overtime at No. 3 Stanford. It was UF's third consecutive overtime match against the Cardinal in Palo Alto since 2014, with SU taking 1-0 OT wins in both regular-season meetings. UF and SU tied 2-2 2OT in 2014 NCAA Quarterfinal action, but SU advanced on penalty kicks. The Bruins were at No. 11 Texas A&M Friday, taking a 1-0 win in front of TAMU's third-largest crowd ever of 5,875.
This is Florida's third trip to Drake Stadium and first since UCLA took a 3-2 win in 2006 NCAA Third Round play. The two teams have met twice since then, both UCLA wins in neutral site matches (2009 3-0 at Illinois; 2011 2-0 at Tennessee). In addition to the 2006 NCAA Third Round match, the two teams also met at Drake Stadium for 2001 NCAA Quarterfinal play, with the Gators taking a 1-0 2OT win to advance to its second NCAA College Cup.
This is the seventh meeting between Florida and UCLA, with the Bruins owning a 4-2 series advantage.
