Kentucky defeated Florida 3-0 as the Gators moved to 12-2 overall, 2-1 in SEC play.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The chips didn't fall the Gators' way Wednesday night in the 'LemDome' as Kentucky departed Gainesville with a 3-0 victory (23-17, 25-18, 25-23) in mid-week conference action.
After five road trips in the last six weeks of action, No. 5 Florida struggled to find a rhythm against a physical Wildcats squad that proved to be too much to handle, halting UF's win streak at 12 matches and giving the Gators their second loss of the season, first in conference play (12-2, 2-1 SEC).
Florida veteran right side Alex Holston carried the Orange and Blue through the match with 15 of Florida's 30 kills on the night, a .400 efficiency and team-high 15.5 points. Junior captain Rhamat Alhassan posted five blocks to lead the Gators defensively at the net, but Kentucky bested Florida in team blocks, 11.0 to 6.0. Junior Carli Snyder scooped up a team high 10 digs and junior libero Caroline Knop was close behind with nine.
In addition to out-blocking the Gators, Kentucky hit .290 to UF's .128, served up four aces and out-dug UF 41-36 on an off night for Florida.
The Orange and Blue will look to rebound and get back in the wins column Sunday when Tennessee comes to town for a noon clash on SEC Network.
