Florida men lead Texas, trail Indiana; Women trail Indiana and Texas

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After Day 1 of the Texas/Indiana double-dual meet, the scores display the fact that
it featured six ranked teams, 39 national championships and 12 Olympians, as well as two world record holders and three previous CSCAA Swimmers of the Year.
In the dual meet battles, the No. 4 Florida men lead No. 2 Texas, 140-103, and trail No. 6 Indiana, 138-105.
UF's 18th ranked women trail No. 3 Texas, 167.5-75.5, and are behind sixth-ranked Indiana, 144-99.
Florida's men had three individual wins on Friday, including Blake Manganiello's first individual win of the season, posting a time of 9:08.17 in the 1,000 free. Caeleb Dressel followed with a first place finish in the 50 free, finishing with a B-cut time of 19.61. Khader Baqlah closed out the individual wins, finishing first in the 500 free with a swim of 4:25.74 in the process.
Hannah Burns swam a 2:01.19 in the 200 IM, good for her first B-cut time of the season. Fertel also notched a qualifying time in the 200 IM, finishing fourth with a swim of 2:01.48. Emma Ball swam a B-cut time in the 100 back, finishing with a 54.08.
Jan Switkowski and Maxime Rooney both posted B-cuts in a 2-3 finish in the 200 free. Switkowski finished with a time of 1:34.59, while Rooney followed close behind with a 1:35.65. They then both went on to do it again, this time in the 100 free. Switkowski finished second with a time of 43.50 and Rooney was fourth with a time of 44.16.
Mark Szaranek and Grant Sanders earned B-cuts of their own in the 200 IM, with Szaranek posting a time of 1:47.51 to finish third. Sanders swam a 1:48.66 for his B-cut, placing fifth overall. Dressel added another B-cut time during the 100 fly, finishing third with a time of 47.17.
Freshman Michael Taylor earned a B-cut of his own in his second collegiate meet in the 100 back, posting a time of 48.33 to finish second overall. Stanley Wu swam a 55.38 in the 100 breaststroke, which also met the B-cut NCAA qualifying standards.
Sophomore Brooke Madden led the Gator women on the 1-meter board and the 3-meter board, finishing second and third overall, respectively. She finished with a score of 292.00 in the 1-meter and 311.95.
Redshirt senior Dalton Goss finished seventh in the men's 3-meter board, posting a score of 289.55. Sophomore Alex Farrow led the Gator men in the 1-meter, finishing in seventh place with a time of 257.10.

How it Happened – Swimming
- The men took home three first place finishes: Manganiello (1,000 free), Dressel (50 free) and Baqlah (500 free).
- Florida's men posted 10 B-cuts on Friday, including two from Dressel, Rooney and Switkowski.
- The women finished with three B-cuts: Burns, Fertel and Ball.
- The men recorded 12 individual finishes in the top-3 and two relay finishes in the top-3.
- The women notched seven individual finishes and two relay finishes in the top-3.
- Madden finished first for the Gator women on the 1-meter, posting a score of 292.00 to finish second overall.
- Teya Syskakis (259.45) and Emma Whitner (259.15) finished sixth and seventh, respectively.
- On the men's 3-meter, Dalton Goss finished seventh overall with his score of 289.55. Alex Farrow was close behind with, finishing with a score of 263.15, good for 10th overall.
- Madden once again led Florida's women on the 3-meter board, posting a score of 311.95 to finish third.
- Syskakis mirrored her previous finish in the 1-meter, placing sixth in the 3-meter with a score of 273.90.
- Farrow registered the best finish for the Florida men in the 1-meter, placing seventh with a score of 257.10. Goss was right behind him in eighth with a score of 255.50.
- "There was a lot of great racing this evening; the three top-10 teams on the men's side all raced like top-10 teams. Our performances were pretty good for this early in the year. We had some performances that were great and some that we thought could be a little better."
- "For the women, they are two really good top-10 teams and we are a little behind them. Just like with the men, we had some really good swims and some that were not so good. I am really pleased with our distance freestyles on both sides."
- "We faced some of the best competition in the country today and we held our own. I'm happy with the way we dove and this level of competition only shows us where we need to improve."
- "Next week will be a gut check for us. We are diving on the road against Alabama on Wednesday, then facing Georgia on Thursday night and Friday. It'll be like boot camp, but when you get to SECs and NCAAs, you are diving prelims and finals every day and this is just preparing us for that."
