GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida men's tennis student-athlete Alfredo Perez has been selected to represent Team USA in the 12th annual Master'U Tournament in Marcq-en-Baroeul, France, Nov. 30-Dec. 3.
The tournament will showcase some of the top collegiate players from the United States against some of the best from Belgium, China, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland and Russia.
Making up Team USA's men's side will be Perez, Brandon Holt of USC and Martin Redlicki of UCLA. On the women's side will be Ena Shibahara of UCLA, Ashley Lahey of Pepperdine and Alle Sanford of North Carolina. This group of student-athletes will be challenged with winning Team USA's eighth straight Master'U Tournament.
With his invitation, Perez becomes just the second Florida Gators men's tennis athlete to be selected for this event. Sekou Bangoura was on the team in 2010 and helped lead Team USA to a second-place finish. The 2010 team was coached by Boise State's Greg Patton who will also be coaching Perez in this year's tournament. Patton has coached the team in every Master'U Tournament since 2009.
"Master'U is the Davis Cup and Fed Cup of college tennis, and we are excited to have another strong group of student-athletes and coaches to represent Team USA," said USTA Collegiate Tennis Director Stephen Amritraj. "Being part of Team USA has evolved into a rite of passage for the best American collegiate players, along with the goals of winning an NCAA team and individual title."
Each team match consists of two men's and two women's singles matches, one women's and one men's doubles match and a mixed doubles match. Complete results from all three days can be found by visiting the Master'U BNP Paribas website.
