Three Gators on United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-South Region Team

Kaylan Marckese, Parker Roberts and Rachelle Smith earned a spot on the team
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A trio of Gators appear on the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-South Region team announced Tuesday.
Florida placed one on each Scholar All-South Region team. Redshirt sophomore Parker Roberts is on the first team, while juniors Rachelle Smith and Kaylan Marckese are on the second and third teams, respectively.
The three also earned Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll accolades last season.
Here's a look at the season notes for Florida's 2017 United Soccer Scholar All-South Region selections:
Goalkeeper – Kaylan Marckese:
Midfielder/Defender– Parker Roberts:
Defender – Rachelle Smith:
To be nominated for the honor, a student-athlete must be a junior or above with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average, start more than 50 percent of all matches and be a significant contributor to the team.
Florida placed one on each Scholar All-South Region team. Redshirt sophomore Parker Roberts is on the first team, while juniors Rachelle Smith and Kaylan Marckese are on the second and third teams, respectively.

Goalkeeper – Kaylan Marckese:
- SEC All-Tournament team selection
- Recorded 22nd solo shutout of career versus Washington State in NCCA Third Round, which is third all-time on UF career list
- Made season debut in 1-0 win versus then No. 24 Mississippi
- Equaled career-high of six saves at Iowa State and again at Texas A&M
- Finished tied for second among SEC goalkeepers with eight shutouts and third with goals-against-average of 0.765 (all matches)
- Sidelined for first six matches with a hand injury
Midfielder/Defender– Parker Roberts:
- United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region third team
- All-SEC first-team selection
- SEC All-Tournament team member
- Scored three goals – versus Troy, Syracuse and Missouri
- First assist as a Gator came on Deanne Rose's golden goal at Iowa State
- First half bicycle-kick save to keep opening half scoreless at No. 11 Tennessee was No. 2 on Oct. 22 edition of ESPN SportsCenter
- Started every match of season, playing entirety of 13 matches
- Average of 84.5 minutes per match third among 2017 Gators
- Moved from defensive midfield to centerback for last 10 matches
- Attended U.S. Under-23 National Team camp in Orlando (Nov. 29-Dec. 4)
Defender – Rachelle Smith:
- All-SEC second-team selection
- Started on outside back or center back for 23 consecutive matches, playing entirety of 19 matches
- Leads Gators with average of 89.2 minutes per match
