Grant Holloway is the fourth Gator in history to win the SEC Outdoor Freshman Runner of the Year award
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Florida hurdler, jumper, and sprinter Grant Holloway was named the SEC Outdoor Freshman Runner of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday (May 31) afternoon.
Holloway is the fourth Gator in history to win the award, which was introduced in 2004. UF's previous winners are Willie Perry (2006), Calvin Smith (2007), and Jimmy Clark (2013).
The Chesapeake, Va. native took runner-up honors in the 110 hurdles and finished third in the long jump, becoming the first man since at least 2005 to score in both those events at the SEC Outdoor Championships. Holloway went on to become the third man since 1998 to qualify for NCAA Outdoor Championships in both events as well.
In addition to his individual work, Holloway helped Florida's 4x100 relay to a top-five ranking (38.73 seconds) and a third-place finish at SECs, and anchored the Gators' 4x400 relay team to the No. 7-ranked time in the nation (3:03.08).
