Murphy, who led the Americans with 47 points through their first three preliminary matches, had a second consecutive low-key weekend offensively, but made significant contributions as a defender.
In addition to her 10 points in the Americans' loss to Brazil (July 23), Murphy led the team with 15 digs. Murphy also tallied 14 points and nine digs in a four-set win over Netherlands (July 20), and 15 points in a 3-1 victory over Belgium (July 21)—which clinched Team USA's spot in the championship round.
Murphy's nine-match stint at the tournament has been highlighted a monstrous 22-point performance against top-ranked China (July 16), along with 19-point outings in a straight-set win over China (July 9) and a five-set triumph over No. 5 Russia (July 7).
Also in U.S. Women's National Team action this year, with the help of rising senior Rhamat Alhassan, the Americans went 7-0 en route to winning the Pan American Cup last month.
Hammons, Kramer, Team USA Finish Seventh at FIVB U20 World Championship
The U.S. Women's Junior National Team, with the help of incoming freshman Paige Hammons and rising sophomore Rachael Kramer, finished seventh at the FIVB U20 World Championship, which concluded in Cordoba, Mexico Sunday (July 23) evening.
Hammons and Kramer saw action in several matches, mostly as reserves.
Hammons' top performance came in a five-set victory over Bulgaria in the seventh-place match. The Louisville, Ky. native and 2016 Under Armour High School All-America First Team selection tallied six points (all kills) and started the final three sets—two of which were American wins.
Kramer's best match came in a 3-1 loss to Poland, as she tallied four points and started the final two sets.
The Americans qualified for this year's FIVB U20 World Championship by winning the NORCECA U20 Pan American Cup. Hammons was a member of the gold medal-winning team the U.S. fielded at the U20 Pan American Cup.
