Cooperation from programs in both leagues allowed the Fresh from Florida Sunshine Showdown soccer match to be rescheduled for Oct. 12.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Fresh from Florida Sunshine Showdown Florida versus Florida State soccer match is back on, thanks to assists from members of each team's conference.
The new date is Thursday, Oct. 12. Match time is set for 6 p.m. at the James G. Pressly Stadium.
The match couldn't be held on the original date, Friday, Sept. 8, due to Hurricane Irma's approach.
To keep the Florida-Florida State soccer match from being canceled for the second consecutive year due to a hurricane took some help from upcoming opponents for both teams.
Auburn agreed to move its Friday, Oct. 13 home date with Florida to Sunday, Oct. 15 at 3 p.m. ET. Wake Forest pushed its home match with Florida State ahead a day to Oct. 15.
"We didn't want a hurricane to cancel the Florida-Florida State match again this year," UF Head Coach Becky Burleigh said. "Thanks to Auburn and Wake Forest for agreeing to accommodate this change. UF and FSU want to keep this traditional matchup going and this year's meeting wouldn't be possible without the help of those opponents."

The No. 7 Gators open SEC play Thursday, Sept. 14 with a home match versus No. 24 Mississippi. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at Pressly Stadium and admission is free.
