Friday, November 16, 2018 | Women's Tennis
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida women's tennis team announced Friday the signing of Sydney Berlin to a national letter of intent to attend Florida and compete with the Gators.
Berlin will enroll in January of 2019 and become a member of the current 2018-19 Gators' roster.
Berlin is a left-handed player who trained with former Gator great and seven-time All-American, Jessica Lehnhoff in Stockholm as part of Lehnhoff Tennis International. Berlin, a native of Malmo, Sweden, has amassed over 40 singles wins and 30 doubles victories on the International Tennis Federation circuit.
Florida Head Coach Roland Thornqvist on Sydney Berlin
"Sydney loves the team aspect of college tennis. She's got a great lefty serve and big ground strokes. She's worked with one of our greatest alums, Jessica Lehnhoff who speaks highly of her."
Gator Women's Tennis 2018-19 Signing Class
Sydney Berlin – 5-5, Left-handed (Malmo, Sweden)
Anastasia Kharitonova – 5-8, Left-handed (Moscow, Russia)
On the Class
"I'm super excited to sign Anastasia and Sydney. These are two players currently training with their respective National Teams and I think they should arrive in January ready to go. They both have substantial international experience and this is something that should definitely prepare them to compete for the Gators right away. Anastasia played at the highest level of junior tennis and Sydney competed in the ITF (International Tennis Federation). We welcome them both to a young but very talented team and we're looking forward to beginning our journey in the new year."
