Gators improve second round score by 25 strokes
ATHENS, Ga. -- Gator sophomore Sierra Brooks is one of just 12 players in red numbers after two rounds of play at the Liz Muphey Collegiate Classic.
After finishing the first 18 holes at one-over par, she had a near flawless second round. Brooks only bogied the par-four first while picking up birdies on No. 6, No. 7 and No. 17.
She enters Saturday tied with Arkansas' Alana Uriell at one-under for the tournament.
After an opening round 79, fellow sophomore Marta Perez also went sub-par in the second round. Perez picked up four birdies in round two including a string of three straight from hole No. 7 to No. 9.
Anchored by the top two players in the lineup, the Gators were able to better their second round score by 25 strokes to help them move up on the leaderboard.
Florida enters the third round of play 10th on the leaderboard.
The final round of play is scheduled for a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start with the Gators as they will be paired with Denver and Kansas.
Coach's Take:
On today's play -- "Quite a Jekyll and Hyde day. I'm happy to see us rebound and post a solid round in the afternoon. That was very important to see." - Coach Emily Glaser"
On learning from round one -- "The morning round was something to learn from and something we had to address. We didn't play great but, our reaction to poor play was really what hurt us. I'm happy we adjusted, but the lesson to learn is how to do that quicker and not let it snowball." - Coach Emily Glaser
On moving forward into tomorrow -- "I think today was a great test for this team and a great lesson on handling adversity and pressure. We will fight hard tomorrow and get all the preparation we can for what lies ahead." -- Coach Emily Glaser
