Florida cards third best score in the final round of play in Nashville
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Gators finished the Mason Rudolph Championship with three players inside of the top 15 on the leaderboard.
As a team, Florida shot the third best round of the day en route to a fourth place finish in the event. The Gators flirted with a top three finish for most of the day but, a few bogies on the last few holes saw placed them a couple of shot back of Liberty.
For the second time this season, Andy Zhang finished in the top 10 on the leaderboard. The sophomore carded a final round 73 (+2) as he took sixth in Nashville and this is the second time in his career he has been the Gator best finisher.
Gordon Neale continued his consistency atop the lineup this week placing inside of the top 15 for the fifth straight tournament. Like Zhang, Neale was 2-over on Sunday which helped him tie for 12th at the tournament with a weekend total of 218 (+5).
Freshman John Axelsen was one stroke back of Neale tying for 15th at 6-over par. This was the second highest finish for the Denmark native this season who had a season best third place finish at the Tavistock.
Axelsen along with Alejandro Tosti carded team-low scores of 71 (E) in the final round. Tosti's round helped him jump up 17 spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for 29th.
Coach's Take
On today's final round -- "I was extremely happy with the way we came out of the gates. It was cold and windy today, the exact conditions I was hoping for. Our toughness needs to be tested. We crushed it for 15 holes, the last three cost us a great day. Championship teams find a way to finish and get great rounds into scoring tent, we couldn't do it today." -- Coach JC Deacon
On the upcoming SEC Tournament -- "The SEC Championship starts in 10 days. We can win that golf tournament. We will use this time to figure out our lineup and get everyone playing their best. That process starts tomorrow morning. I'm really really excited for the challenge." -- Coach JC Deacon
