The Gators had three individuals competing in the singles portion of the individual championship on Wednesday. Junior
Alfredo Perez, who earned All-America honors a season ago with a round of 16 appearance, advanced to the second round this year. Perez's first round matchup was against JJ Wolf of Ohio State who entered the contest with 25-8 dual match record this season.
Â
Perez jumped out to an early in lead in the first set before taking the set by a score of 6-4. Rain, which played a factor during the entire team tournament just a few days ago, once again interrupted a match in the NCAA Tournament. After a rain delay, Perez took a 5-4 lead before breaking Wolf to take the set 6-4 and the match. Perez will compete in the second round on Thursday against Columbia's Victor Pham. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.
Â
Also competing in singles was
Johannes Ingildsen and
Oliver Crawford. Ingildsen lost his first round match to Michigan's Runhao Hua 7-5, 6-2. Crawford fell in his match 6-1, 6-1 to Florida State's Lucas Poullain.
