Gators Chasing Eugene Qualifiers at NCAA East Preliminary
Wednesday, May 23, 2018 | Track and Field
The top 12 individuals and 12 relays from each regional competition advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore.
TAMPA, Fla. – Florida track and field, ranked No. 1 on the men's side and No. 8 on the women's side of the USTFCCCA National Team Rankings, will carry its momentum from sweeping the SEC Outdoor Championships into this week's NCAA East Preliminary, hosted by University of South Florida.
The top 48 individual and top 24 relay declarations within the East and West Regions earned berths to their respective preliminary meet.
The top 12 individuals and 12 relays from each regional competition will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., slated for June 6-9.
Twelve of Florida's 27 men's entries are top-10 seeds, including regional leaders senior KeAndre Bates (triple jump) and sophomore Grant Holloway (110-meter hurdles; long jump). Bates is the defending outdoor national champion in both the long jump and triple jump, while Holloway is the defending champion in the 110 hurdles.
Florida's 4x400 relay team—comprised of junior Kunle Fasasi, Holloway, and freshmen Chantz Sawyers and Benjamin Lobo Vedel—is the top seed regionally and nationally. The Gators also boast top-3 entrants in junior Anders Eriksson (hammer throw), sophomore Clayton Brown (high jump; triple jump), and freshman Cory Poole (400-meter hurdles).
Florida's 20 women's entries feature 11 top-10 seeds, headlined by regional leader and SEC champion junior Sharrika Barnett (400 meters). Of those 11 top 10s, seven are in the top three: sixth-year senior Avione Allgood (javelin throw), Barnett, senior Lloydricia Cameron (shot put), junior Yanis David (long jump; triple jump), senior Darrielle McQueen (long jump), and the Gators' 4x400 relay.
FloTrack will provide live streaming for all three days of competition, though it requires a paid subscription. Links to the streaming information, as well as ticketing and additional meet information are below.
