Danilina's Run Ends in NCAA Singles Quarterfinals
Saturday, May 26, 2018 | Women's Tennis
This was the second consecutive season Anna Danilina reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championships
WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Gator senior Anna Danilina posted terrific rallies in her last two matches but wasn't able to pull off the trick in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championships, where her outstanding collegiate career came to an end at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex Saturday afternoon.
Following a rain delay, all quarterfinal round matches got underway and Danilina found herself down an early break against Vanderbilt's Fernanda Contreras, 2-1. She got the break back in the sixth game and held in the seventh to even the initial set.
The next three games were on-serve until the Commodore earned the important break in the 11th game and held to take the first set, 7-5, before winning all the big points in the second to advance to the semifinals after posting the 7-5, 6-1 decision.
Danilina was the final Gator competitor remaining in the season-ending NCAA individual event.

Quotes from the Court – UF Associate Head Coach Dave Balogh
"Tough one today. First of all, we need to give props to (Fernanda) Contreras. She played a heck of a match. It was a battle to get that first set. She played a couple big points just a little bit better than we did at the end there.
"What an incredible career Anna has had here at Florida. She represented our program and our university with class, she was a super teammate and it was truly an honor and privilege to coach and work with Anna these last three years. It will be tough to replace her along with our other two seniors in Peggy (Porter) and Josie (Kuhlman)."
