Finke Makes Big Splash on Day One at Phillips 66 Nationals

IRVINE, Calif. –Incoming freshman Robert Finke is the first to punch his ticket to the Pan Pacs, after finishing second in the 1,500-meter freestyle on the opening day of the Phillips 66 Nationals.
Finke was in the top three throughout the race. With about 300 meters left, he started to make his move for the second position. Finke finished the race and set a new personal-best time with a mark of 14:55.34. Ben Lawless posted a time of 15:21.48 and placed 11th.
In the 100-meter freestyle, recent graduate Caeleb Dressel and junior Maxime Rooney found themselves in the A Final. Dressel finished sixth with a time of 48.50, while Rooney came in at 48.56 for a seventh-place finish. In the D Final, incoming freshman Trey Freeman swam a 50.27 and finished third.
In the women's 800-meter freestyle, sophomore Taylor Ault finished her heat in second and placed ninth overall. Ault finished with an 8:34.25.
Senior Brennan Balogh reached the finals in the 200-meter butterfly. In the C Final, Balogh notched a time of 2:00.38 on his way to a sixth-place finish.
The Phillips 66 Nationals continue tomorrow at noon EST with the 200-meter freestyle. Watch live at usaswimming.org.
