
Dressel Punches Ticket to Pan Pacs on Day Three of Phillips 66 Nationals

Caeleb Dressel Makes Strong Statement in 100m Fly
IRVINE, Calif. – Caeleb Dressel posted the fastest time in the world this year in the 100-meter butterfly, on day three of the Phillips 66 Nationals. All the women in the 400-meter individual medley qualified for finals as Florida swimmers posted a strong showing.
After qualifying fourth for the A Final in the men's 100-meter butterfly, Caeleb Dressel made a strong statement in the finals. Caeleb Dressel posted the world's fastest time this year, with a 50.50. He is the National Champion and secured a sport on the Pan Pacific Championships. Maxime Rooney finished eighth in the B Final. Rooney swam a 53.18 and finished 16th overall.
All five women that competed in the prelims of the 400-meter individual medley qualified for the finals. After a prelim swim of 4:45.14, Hannah Burns posted a personal-best time of 4:42.95 in the B Final on her way to a third-place finish. Kelly Fertel and Savanna Faulconer finished in seventh and eighth, with times of 4:48.64 and 4:49.16, respectively. After swimming a 4:49.13 in prelims, incoming freshman Vanessa Pearl swam a 4:45.94 and won the C Final. Leah Braswell finished in seventh with a time of 4:51.62.
Incoming freshman Kieran Smith posted an eighth-place finish in the A Final of the men's 400-meter individual medley, with a 4:18.18. Robert Finke posted the ninth-fastest time in prelims and qualified for the B Final with a mark of 4:18.43. Finke swam a new personal-best, with a swim of 4:15.79, on his way to a first-place finish. Incoming freshman Miguel Cancel recorded a fourth-place finish with a 4:24.97 in the D Final.
Dillon Hillis, an incoming freshman, qualified for the D Final in the 50-meter breaststroke with a 29.23. In the final, he swam a personal-best mark of 28.92 and won the D Final.
Sherridon Dressel swam in the C Final of the women's 50-meter backstroke, after qualifying with a time of 28.96. She improved on her prelim time, with a C Finals time of 28.67 and a second-place finish.
