The Florida Gators had more on their minds this afternoon then just going up against LSU. The team was also supporting sophomore midfielder and pediatric cancer survivor
Lauren Evans in her attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records for the most amount of selfies in three minutes.
"I just took some beautiful selfies, I think there were 208 people out there, I am pretty sure there were 208. My arms we're getting really tired, but I just had to fight through it, just like I fought through cancer because that was really important to me," Evans said.
The community came out in full force to help break the record, including LSU's players and coaches. Many of those standing in line to get their chance at playing a part in a Guinness World Record effort wore
orange – the color of Pediatric Cancer Awareness.
"That meant a lot to me knowing its way more than competition. People are willing to help out when it comes to pediatric cancer. I think that game raised a lot of awareness and that's what I wanted," Evans said.
To break the world record, Evans needed to take 169 selfies that qualified under the guidelines.
She ended up with 147.
But despite her falling short of the record, her teammates are still proud of how far she has come in the last 10 months since her diagnosis.
"She's the heart and soul of this team. Like we're playing for her. It's an amazing opportunity for us to have this season to play for her and support her," redshirt senior
Courtney Douglas said.
Florida head coach
Becky Burleigh was impressed with the amount of people who stayed to take a selfie with Evans.
"All these people out here to support it is amazing, including the LSU team. So big shout out to LSU for participating," Burleigh said.
