After Rocky Start, Gators Improve Through First Round of Nike Collegiate
Sunday, September 30, 2018 | Men's Golf
FORT WORTH, Texas – After an 18-hole first round of the Nike Collegiate Invitational, the Gators men's golf team sits tied for 7th with Southern California.
The Gators help positions on the leader board anywhere from first to last, but were able to finish in the middle of the pack ahead of tomorrow's second round. Sophomore John Axelsen and redshirt freshman Manny Girona lead the Gators, both carding one-over-par 71s to break into the top 20 at T19. The pair of freshmen, Aden Ye and Eugene Hong, each carded a 72 to sit T27.
Bogeys were the enemy for senior Gordon Neale in the first round. His two birdies were not enough to make up for his four bogeys, sinking him to 72nd and +8 at the end of the day. Only five strokes off the leader, there are two more rounds to play and lots of time for the Gators to continue to improve.
